Rapid On The GO! users who have access to the Jobs > Write permission in ERP, can not only create new jobs, they can also define new jobsites for existing customers. Starting with ROTG 4.2.0, users are able to define jobsite locations using a familiar Google experience.
When adding or editing a jobsite in Rapid On The GO!, the Street, City, State, and Postal Code fields are all grayed out. These fields are not editable but are being populated based on the behavior of the Location field.
Pressing the Location field will open a Google maps page.
When creating a new jobsite, the user will start by seeing their location on a map. From here, they can either type in the address or GPS coordinates of the location that they need to use for a jobsite, or they can tap on the map, where a pin will be dropped. Using the search bar uses Google’s recommendation API, just like in Rapid ERP.
If the location does not have a natural street address, then the user can define a jobsite using GPS coordinates either by searching those GPS coordinates or tapping on the map. GPS coordinates can also be copied and pasted into the location search field (for example, from a text message).
When tapping on the map, Google will use the GPS coordinates of the pin where the user tapped, and will put its definition of the address of that location. The important aspect here is the GPS coordinates as these will be the destination that the Map My Route feature uses to get the operator to the correct location.
Notice how the GPS coordinates are in the search bar but Google is trying to put a street address on the recommendation… that’s ok! The GPS coordinates are how the operator will be navigated to the jobsite.
Using the map my route feature in ROTG will ensure that the operator is directed to the GPS coordinates.
When editing an existing jobsite, the user will have to either use the “clear” button at the bottom or the “X” inline with the search bar.
